Setting Up ActiveSync on the Pocket PC
Saving Files to the Synchronization Directory
Synchronization Considerations
Brat Factor Planner performs a task-level merge of the PC and Pocket PC .bpf files. The Brat Factor Planner Synchronization Module synchronizes all Brat Factor Planner files in the directory you choose.
-
Open Microsoft ActiveSync, and click on the Options button. Choose the "Sync Options" tab, and check "Brat Factor Planner Files".
- Choose a Synchronization Directory. Click the Settings button. You will see the default directory for Brat Factor Planner synchronization. If you want to change this, click on the button to the right of the directory name, and choose an existing directory. When you save a file in the Brat Factor Planner to this directory, it will be automatically sync'ed with the Pocket PC.
- Open a new or existing .bpf file in Brat Factor Planner, and save it to the synchronization directory.
Note: Simply copying an existing file to the synchronization directory doesn't work; a file has to be saved
from Brat Factor Planner for it to be synchronized.
- Connect your Pocket PC to its cradle and run synchronization.
- Open ActiveSync and click on Explore. You should see the new file on the Pocket PC. If you don't, select View | Refresh in the Mobile Device window to refresh the display.
- If you do not see the file appear on the Pocket PC, save the file again, remove the Pocket PC from its cradle and reboot it, then replace it and synchronize.
- Backups of the most recently sync'd files are available in the Backup subdirectory. The
Backup subdirectory is under the synchronization directory (C:\BratPlannerFiles\Backup is the default). When Brat Factor Planner synchronizes the files from the PC and Pocket PC, it saves the original versions in the Backup subdirectory as PC_BACKUP_filename.bpf and CE_BACKUP_filename.bpf
- If a task exists on both platforms, the task that was edited most recently is included in the merged file.
- After synchronization completes, Brat Factor Planner reloads the newly-merged versions of the .bpf files. The file reloads without prompting by default. If you want to be prompted, change the setting on the Tools | Options dialog. (See Configuring Auto-Save.)
